Richard Hickox

Bio

Richard Hickox (1948–2008) was an English conductor renowned for his work in choral, orchestral, and operatic repertoire. He founded the City of London Sinfonia and the Richard Hickox Singers, and served as music director of the London Symphony Orchestra’s choral programme and later as principal conductor of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Hickox was celebrated for his extensive recordings of British music, including landmark cycles of Vaughan Williams and Grainger, as well as acclaimed performances of Handel, Britten, and Purcell. His discography earned multiple Gramophone Awards and a Grammy, and he was appointed CBE in 2004 for services to music.
