Bio
Chaka Khan is an American singer, songwriter, and musician born in Chicago on March 23, 1953. She first gained prominence in the 1970s as the lead vocalist of the funk band Rufus, with whom she recorded several hits including "Tell Me Something Good" and "Sweet Thing." Khan launched a successful solo career in 1978, releasing the platinum-certified album Chaka and the enduring single "I'm Every Woman." Over five decades she has earned ten Grammy Awards and is widely recognized for her powerful voice and genre-spanning catalog that includes funk, R&B, pop, jazz, and disco. Her influence on subsequent generations of vocalists has earned her the nickname "Queen of Funk."
