Bio
The Drifting Cowboys were the longtime backing band for country music legend Hank Williams. Formed in the late 1940s, the group provided the instrumental foundation for many of Williams' classic recordings and live performances. Their tight, honky-tonk sound helped define the raw, emotional style that made Williams a star. The lineup included musicians such as Jerry Rivers on fiddle, Bob McNett and later Sammy Pruett on guitar, Hillous Butrum on bass, and Don Helms on steel guitar. After Williams' death in 1953, the Drifting Cowboys continued performing and recording, preserving the traditional country sound they helped popularize.
