Bio

Andrew Gold (1951–2011) was an American singer-songwriter, record producer, and multi-instrumentalist best known for his 1970s hits “Lonely Boy” and “Thank You for Being a Friend.” Born in Burbank, California, he began his career as a session musician and arranger, contributing to albums by Linda Ronstadt and other West Coast artists before launching his solo career. Gold’s work spanned pop, rock, and film soundtracks; he wrote and performed the theme for the television series “The Golden Girls” and supplied music for several Disney projects. His technical skill on guitar, keyboards, and drums, combined with a knack for melodic hooks, made him a sought-after collaborator throughout his four-decade career.
