Bio
Toots & The Maytals are a Jamaican vocal group formed in Kingston in 1963, fronted by Frederick "Toots" Hibbert. They are widely credited with coining the term "reggae" and helped shape the transition from ska and rocksteady to roots reggae. Their 1968 single "Do the Reggay" is regarded as one of the earliest recorded uses of the word, and their energetic performances and gospel-infused vocals made them one of the most influential acts in Jamaican music history. Over six decades the group has released numerous albums, collaborated with international artists, and maintained a global touring presence while remaining rooted in Jamaican traditions.
