Bio

Max Bruch (1838–1920) was a German composer and conductor whose works bridged the late-Romantic era. Born in Cologne, he studied in Frankfurt and Leipzig before establishing himself as a leading figure in German musical life. His compositions include symphonies, choral works, and chamber music, but he is best remembered for his concertos, especially the Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor, Op. 26. Bruch served as conductor of orchestras in Koblenz, Sondershausen, Liverpool, and Breslau, and later taught composition in Berlin. Although his style remained rooted in the Romantic tradition, his music is noted for its lyrical melodies and skillful orchestration. Today he is regarded as one of the most important German composers of his generation after Brahms.
