Bio
Pierre Fournier (1906–1986) was a French cellist celebrated for his refined tone and interpretive depth. Born in Paris, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire and quickly established himself as one of the leading soloists of his generation. Fournier performed extensively across Europe and North America, collaborating with conductors such as Wilhelm Furtwängler and Herbert von Karajan. He was particularly admired for his recordings of the Bach Cello Suites and concertos by Haydn, Dvořák, and Elgar. In addition to his solo career, Fournier was a dedicated chamber musician, forming notable partnerships with pianists like Artur Schnabel and Rudolf Serkin. His legacy endures through a substantial discography that continues to influence cellists today.
