Nicholas McGegan

Bio

Nicholas McGegan is a British conductor and flautist specializing in historically informed performance of Baroque and Classical repertoire. Born in Sawbridgeworth, England, in 1950, he studied at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music before establishing himself as a leading figure in early music. He served as music director of the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra in San Francisco from 1985 to 2018 and has held principal guest conductor positions with several ensembles, including the City of London Sinfonia. McGegan is noted for his extensive discography of operas and orchestral works by composers such as Handel, Haydn, and Mozart, recorded for labels including Harmonia Mundi and Hyperion.
