Nathaniel Rateliff is an American singer-songwriter born in Hermann, Missouri, on October 7, 1978. He first gained attention in the early 2010s with introspective, acoustic-driven albums that blended folk, rock, and soul influences. In 2015 he formed Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, whose horn-driven single "S.O.B." brought wider commercial success and showcased his shift toward upbeat rhythm-and-blues material. Rateliff continues to record and tour under both his own name and with the Night Sweats, maintaining a reputation for energetic live performances and emotionally direct songwriting.
