Bio
The New Philharmonia Orchestra was the name used by the Philharmonia Orchestra of London from 1964 to 1977 after its founder Walter Legge withdrew financial support. Based in the United Kingdom, the ensemble maintained its reputation for excellence in both concert and recording work under principal conductors including Otto Klemperer. It performed a broad classical and romantic repertoire and made numerous acclaimed recordings for EMI and other labels. The orchestra reverted to the Philharmonia name in 1977 and continues today as one of the United Kingdom’s major symphony orchestras.
